Arranging a funeral
Arranging a funeral can be a very stressful and emotional experience and we want to make the process easier and to give you peace of mind.
There are a few steps you must take when arranging a funeral.
Register the death
If you have just been bereaved the first thing you will need to do is register the death.
If the death took place in Cardiff you will need to register the death with Cardiff Council’s register office.
Ceremony arrangements
A funeral director can help you plan out the ceremony arrangements and legal requirements, whether you opt for a burial or cremation. See choosing a funeral director.
We can provide a professional, dignified funeral service at a low cost available to all Cardiff residents. Find out more about the Cardiff Council funeral service.
You can also arrange the funeral yourself if you do not want or need the help of a funeral director. See arranging the funeral yourself.
Memorials
You may want to look at some of the options available for memorials at our cemeteries. We can provide headstones, remembrance plaques an entry into the book of remembrance and more. See our memorial options.
Support and advice
We are always on hand to offer free, impartial advice on all aspects of funeral arrangements.
There are also many independent and government groups set up to provide support and advice on financial issues, health and wellbeing and legal matters. View support and advice groups.
